about

Torkelsen is a Norwegian producer influenced by acts like Röyksopp and RJD2. Influences that might not make sense, but that has sent him on a musical journey with a few singles and beat tapes, and two critically acclaimed full length albums on Sellout! Music that were applauded by the likes of XLR8R, CMJ, No Fear of Pop, Under the Radar and Decoder Magazine. His sounds often compared to Four Tet, Gold Panda and Flying Lotus.

His self titled debut was a very controlled a polished affair with tracks that dipped into all of his influences, while maintaining a pop sensibility to his production. His second album Sattellittskygge was an uncompromising and proggy release where he painted an immense and intense sonic landscape.

This new release finds him retracing his steps back to his elegant pop sensibilities, while retaining the complexity of his second album. The vibe is more restrained, but still very intense and emotional. His hiphop roots showcased more in terms of his sampling skills, than in the beats.

The release was supposed to be an EP, but unfortunately Torkelsen's hard drive crashed, and he lost everything except two early mixes of the tracks No one who knows and Walter in mp3 format. Even though these weren't the final mixes, the tracks were so good that they had to be released. After a short while Torkelsen decided to ask Kenneth Ishak (who mixed Torkelsen's previous album) to beef up the sound bit in his studio before sending the tracks to Antony Ryan (of Morr Music's Isan) for the final mastering. And the results were great.
